Mera Peak
Trip Facts
Duration : 19 days
Difficulty Level : 3
Group Size : 2-10
Maximum Altitude : 6400 m
Climbing Mera Peak is not technically difficult. The trekking loop of Mera Peak is a good start for the first summit of more than 6000 m. For the first trek in high altitude in Nepal, it is an excellent choice. We organize the circuits of Lukla by Puyang and Pangum to avoid the Zatrav pass. This allows acclimatizing better to the altitude by a gradual rise in altitude. The ascent of the peak of Mera requires 1 camp high 5800 m. The other 2 hikes of Mera by Amphulapsa and Mera and Island Peak are done with the return by the splendid Amphulapcha pass at 5850 m which allows reaching Khumbu valley with sight on Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Makalu, etc. Crossing the Amphulapsa Pass requires good mountaineering skills.
At the peak of Mera Peak, a magnificent view of the Himalayas, at an altitude of 8,000 meters, extends from Kangchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, Lhotse to Cho Oyu. This crossing is a beautiful trip in altitude that will take you through 3 different valleys. That of Tangnag Kharé then that of Baruntse Amphulapsa to end with that of Khumbu Namche.
Difficulty climbing at Mera Peak
The ascent of the peak of Mera is not technically difficult. However, you should have a good physical condition and tents at 5700 m is necessary. The final slope is inclined at about 35-40 ° and 50 m high and equipped with a fixed rope. It is necessary to be able to cling to the ascent and descent on slopes of about 30 to 35 ° on a short distance (50 m), ie walking in rope.
Difficulty climbing to Mera Peak through Amphulapsa and/or Island Peak
Island Peak and crossing the Amphulaptsa Pass are high mountain roads. True mountaineering skills and very good physical condition are essential. The equivalent is crossing the Trois Mont Blanc. It is necessary to be able to cling to the ascent and descent on slopes of about 45 ° about 200 m high, to know how to use a descender, to walk in rope, know how to use a jumar
The crossing of the Amphu Lapsa pass is the most technical and delicate part.
