Mera Peak

Trip Facts

Duration : 19 days

Difficulty Level : 1

Group Size : 2-10

Maximum Altitude :

Climbing Mera Peak is not technically difficult. The Mera Peak trekking loop is a good start for a first summit of more than 6000 m.

For a first trek in high altitude in Nepal it is an excellent choice.

We organize the circuits from Lukla by Puyang and Pangum to avoid the Zatrav pass The far too high from the 2nd day. This allows to better acclimatize to the altitude by a gradual climb in altitude.

The ascent of Mera Peak requires 1 high camp at High Camp at 5800 m.

The other 2 Mera treks by Amphulapsa and Mera and Island Peak are done with the return by the magnificent Amphulapcha pass at 5850 m which allows to reach the Khumbu valley with views of Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Makalu , etc.

The crossing of the Col de l’Amphulapsa requires good skills in mountaineering.

At the top of the Mera Peak, a magnificent view of the Himalayan 8000m range from Kangchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, Lhotse to Cho Oyu.

This crossing is a beautiful trip in altitude that will take you through 3 different valleys. That of Tangnag Kharé then that of Baruntse Amphulapsa to end with that of Khumbu Namche.

Difficulty climbing Mera Peak alone

The ascent of Mera Peak is not technically difficult. However, she claims a good physical condition and a bivouac at 5700 m is necessary. The final slope is inclined at about 35 ° -40 ° and 50 m high and equipped with a fixed rope.It is necessary to be able to cling to the ascent and descent in slopes of about 30 – 35 ° for a short distance (50 m), namely to walk roped.

Difficulty climbing Mera Peak with crossing Amphulapsa and or Island Peak

Island Peak and the crossing of the Amphulaptsa Pass are glacier high mountain routes. Real mountaineering skills and a very good physical condition are essential. The equivalent is crossing the Trois Mont Blanc. It is necessary to be able to cling to the ascent and descent in slopes of about 45 ° about 200 m high, to know how to use a descender, to know how to walk roped, to know how to use a jumar

The crossing of the Col de l’Amphu lapsa is the most technical and delicate part.
